Kachikally Crocodile Pool

Some people believe that the water of a crocodile pool has healing powers, that it can increase your fertility or potency. The pool is said to be at least 500 years old, though it was first discovered 100 years ago. 

Since then, the crocodiles have become so tame that you can pet them, and of course they love being fed. Fish, preferably, rather than meat.

There are several pools like Kachikally in the country, but this is the closest to the tourist area. It lies in a 2.5 acre woods that attracts a wide assortment of tropical birds, animals and reptiles. 

In a small museum, you can learn more about the history and culture of this part of Gambia, and of course there’s a souvenir shop and a bar for cold drinks.
